It’s hard to believe that there are only a few months left of this school year. The snow days came just in time for a much needed break from the daily school activities and schedule. Although snow days bring much excitement…the excitement wears off after a short while and cabin fever can seem to set in pretty quicky. If you have young ones full of energy at home then it probably happens a lot faster for you. However, there are a lot of fun, creative ways to keep your kids entertained while you are stuck inside on your snow day.

#1: Play in the Snow

This is the most obvious way to have fun on a snow day. Of course, if you ended up with more freezing rain and sleet than snow you can skip over this recommendation. However, if you did get enough snow to play in then take your kids outside to build a snowman, go sledding, build a snow fort or even go on a winter walk around the neighborhood.

#2: Bake

Who doesn’t love some baked goods? Let your kids help you make some cookies or muffins to pass the time and enjoy a sweet treat together. This is a great way to warm up on a snowy morning.

#3: Build a Fort

All you need are some blankets, pillows and chairs to build your fort. You can read books in your fort or have a movie day!

#4: Movie Day

Piggy Backing on #3…you can plan a movie day. Pick out some family friendly movies, pop some popcorn, grab your candy and cuddle on the couch or in your newly built fort.

#5: Tea Party or Picnic

Lay out a blanket, make some sandwiches, put out some fresh fruit and have a picnic or host a tea party with some muffins.

#6: Indoor Camping

Who said camping was just for outside? Pop up a tent, grab a lantern, lay some sleeping bags out and let your kiddo’s camp inside. The power of their imagination can keep them entertained for hours.

#7: Play Board Games

This is a perfect time for you to bond as a family and play some group board games together to pass time and have fun. Playing board games can help kids build frustration tolerance, learn regulation strategies and build problem solving skills.

#8: Blow Bubbles

Kids of all ages love bubbles. Blow some bubbles outside for a little experimental fun. The bubbles will freeze if the temperatures are freezing. You can also use food coloring to color your bubbles and make it more fun. You can paint a picture with your colored bubbles as well!

#9: Dance Party

Put on some music and build your connection with your kiddo’s by having a dance party. Kids love to dance and it will be a great opportunity for them to release some energy.

#10: Balloon Tennis

All you need is a balloon and a couple of paper plates glued to some popsicle sticks. There are a lot of fun games you can play with balloons. Be careful with leaving balloons unattended around little ones due to it being a choking hazard.

#11: Other Indoor Games

Play charades, pictionary, simon says, follow the leader or even video games with your little ones.

#12: Indoor Snow Ball Fight

Use paper or plastic wrap to make some snowballs for your snowball fight. If there is snow on the ground just go outside and live a little!

#13: Make Homemade Playdoh

Kids love playdoh and there are a lot of recipes on Pinterest for free with ingredients you are likely to have at home.

#14: Teach them a Bible Story

Teach them a bible story…such as Daniel in The Lion’s Den or David and Goliath then have them act it out for more fun.

#16: Make a Hot Chocolate Bar

Grab some hot chocolate, cool whip, chocolate syrup, little candies or sprinkles for the top and set up a little hot chocolate bar for them to make their own.

#17: Crafts

Create some snowflakes or a snowman, make a bracelet, or paint a kindness rock to pass some time and allow your kids to use some of their creativity. Valentines Day will be here soon…put out some construction paper, paint, markers, and stickers for them to make a few valentine cards.

#18: Indoor Bowling

If you don’t have a toy bowling set then just use some empty water bottles and a tennis ball to set up indoor bowling for your kids.

#19: Scavenger Hunt

You can find a free scavenger hunt on Pinterest or you can pick items to hide around the house for your kids to find. To make it even more fun, you can create a map or write out riddles for your kids to solve.

#20: Make a Music Video

I remember making a lot of music video’s in high school with my sister and my friends. I love this idea. Pick out a song that the kids love, pick out some costumes, come up with some moves for your music video and have fun recording it. Let your kids be creative.

There are a lot of fun, creative ways to stay entertained on snow days! Don’t let your day get away without trying some of these fun options.
