At 33 weeks pregnant, I started planning for and preparing my baby girls hospital bag. As I was researching, I quickly became overwhelmed with the extensive lists that I was finding. I kept digging and researching about what I actually needed (or didn’t need) to bring to the hospital when I go into labor. A lot of the things you will need when the baby is born, the hospital will have! You could just show up with your car seat and be perfectly fine. Below I will share what I am packing in Madi’s diaper bag and then I will link what I will be packing for myself!

  • Announcement Outfit
    • I will be bringing two announcement outfits because I can’t decide which one, I want to use. This is not a necessity! The hospital will have outfits and swaddles for your baby to go home in. I have chosen to bring a sweater with her name crocheted on it, socks and a big bow. Then the other announcement outfit is a swaddle with a matching hat, rattle, socks and announcement sign. I have linked one below that is just like the one I will be using but a different pattern. Amazon has multiple patterns to choose from and quite a few affordable options.
  • A Onesie or Two
    • The hospital will have onesies for your baby but if you have a preferred one you would like to bring that is great too. I will be bringing a long sleeve onesie with a zipper for the car ride home.
  • Wipes
    • I am bringing wipes for the car ride home. I will need them in her diaper bag eventually anyway so might as well just pack them.
  • Diaper Cream
  • A Pacifier
  • A Swaddle/Receiving Blanket
    • It will still be winter and cold out when we have Madi. I will use this to add extra warmth for her once I get her strapped safely into her car seat. Plus, this could double as a burp rag.
  • A Winter Car Seat Cover
    • It is cold outside and want her to be warm on the car ride home!
  • Her Baby Book
    • I am bringing her baby book so that when they take Madi’s footprint for her birth certificate, they can also do it a second time and put her footprint in her baby book. Below I have attached the exact baby book I have for Madi that will document her first 5 years of life. I love this baby book!
  • Polaroid Camera
    • I had a friend who gifted me a polaroid camera for my baby shower! This obviously isn’t something you have to have but I will be bringing mine to take pictures of her in her announcement outfits for her baby book.
  • Car Seat
    • Okay the car seat is a necessity. This is the number one thing that you will have to have in order for you to leave the hospital with your baby! The hospital will also check to make sure it is installed correctly so keep that in mind. I love this car seat because it is light weight, and you just click it into the base! You can have multiple bases in other vehicles and easily move the car seat from vehicle to vehicle.

Okay, that is all I am packing in my baby’s hospital bag for when I got into Labor. Hope this is helpful and doesn’t feel overwhelming for you. Comment below and let me know what you plan to pack! Below I have linked what I will bring in my hospital bag for me when I go into Labor.
